Walking

Walking

There are walks from the door here at The Pines to suit all abilities, but the Yorkshire Three Peaks has to be the most iconic. Hundreds of people take on the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge of Ingleborough, Pen-y-Ghent and Whernside each year and Ingleton makes an ideal base, which although adds a little onto the length, will not disappoint. A stunning route just short of 30 miles taking in the beauty of this area.

Don’t forget how close Ingleton is to the Lake District National Park either, just a 40 minute drive to Windermere. Take a lake cruise or head further towards Ambleside for the start of the higher fells.

Ingleton Waterfalls and Trail

We couldn’t be in a better location for exploring Ingleton Waterfalls and the trail. A stunning 4.3 mile route between the rivers Twiss and Doe on a well routed footpath, to make the most of viewing the waterfalls and famous Thornton Force.

White Scar Cave

White Scar Cave

White Scar Cave is the longest show cave in Britain. Just a 5 minute drive or a lovely walk from The Pines where there are regular guided tours through the day, a café and a shop. There are waterfalls, stalagmites in the shape of a judges head and stalactites in the shape of carrots. It really is a great day out full of interest.

Ribblehead Viaduct

The Pines is less than 7 miles by car from one of the most popular photo opportunities in the area, the stunning example of Victorian architecture, the Ribblehead Viaduct.

Settle to Carlisle Railway

Settle to Carlisle Railway

A trip on the Settle to Carlisle Railway is a must when visiting us. An experience enjoyed at any time of the year and one of the best ways to see The Dales where you have the opportunity to actually go over the iconic Ribblehead Viaduct between Ingleborough and Whernside. A real experience for guests of all ages. Look out for Dent Station north of Ingleton which is the highest mainline station in England at 1,150 feet.

Golf

With the rolling hills and lush grass, it’s not a surprise that the area has some fabulous golf courses. Here’s just a few:

Cycling

Cycling

With plenty of country roads, scenery and hills, Ingleton is great for both road and mountain biking and it is also on the Pennine Cycle Way – Route 68. The full route is a massive 265 miles starting from Derbyshire and finishing in Northumberland but using the route north or south of Ingleton gives plenty of options to keep off busy roads.

Shopping

Ingleton has some lovely shops to explore. For food, the award winning Seasons Bakery for eat in or takeaway, sweet and savoury and Country Harvest Food Hall. For arts and crafts then Ginger Arts, Craftopia, Gingerbugs & Co and Stonegate for glass arts. Also look out for Ingleton Pottery, the longest established working pottery in the Yorkshire Dales. Stock up on outdoor gear from Ingleton Sports or if you’ve forgotten any bike gear or need maintenance head to Escape Bikes.

Nearby Kirkby Lonsdale is a gem of a market town too with lots of independent shops, cafes, a Booths Supermarket, clothing, a Bath House shop, food & delis and antique shops.
